About Amanda
I'm a pattern designer, seamstress, and artist who loves to read old books, design and sew original clothing, and generally raise the fire hazard level of the house with ever-present, ever-shifting stacks and drifts and mountains of papers.

About Frivolous Distinction
Frivolous Distinction designs are all originals by me (keep a lookout for possible patterns in the future!) and are tweaked to fit the available materials for each short, unique run of garments.

I use an eclectic mixture of new fabrics and trimmings and like-new thrifted and repurposed finds. It's like a treasure hunt, pulling together the fabrics, buttons, and trims for a new design. This means that the inventory is always changing!

I like to use lace, pintucks, and embroidery to give just the right touch of heirloom vintage girliness, and decorative rows of topstitching are a favorite.

Frivolous Distinction garments are fully finished inside--no raw edges here!--for a piece that's as beautiful inside as it is out. Lining, bias bound seams and french seams give a quality heirloom look.

What sizes do you sell?
At the moment I'm concentrating on a range of sizes that will fit children approximately ages 1-6. Below is my sizing chart. The listings for individual pieces have the length information for each garment.

My stock is constantly changing, so I'm sorry if something isn't available in the size you're looking for--subscribe to the newsletter to be notified of additions to the shop!

What about garment care?
Each garment comes with tags that include washing, drying and ironing instructions. The appropriate care for your garment will be marked on the tag.

I pre-wash all fabric for minimal garment shrinkage and try to make sure things are as easy-care as possible!
